Sole Race Preview – Thursday 01 June 2017

With such a good May (+59.09pts) and a lot of racing to come over the next month, there’s no point trying to force something on the first day of the month (or any other day come to that). To that end, from a shortlist of 8, there’s just one selection for tomorrow’s races. May’s full results to follow at the end of today’s meetings.

14:40 Lingfield 1 Jun 2017

Lynda Gilfrin Birthday Fillies’ Handicap (Class 5) (3YO only) 7F

CONQUERESS makes all the appeal in this one from a value perspective. There’s a real positive from being drawn wide in this one and from 15, she should be able to get a fair crack at a clear run. The only C&D winner in this field she set a fairly useful time when last seen here, within three seconds of the course record. Although she’s upped 9lbs from that outing it’s more than conceivable that she’s come on a fair bit during her break. Trainer Tom Dascombe has a put together a nice run of placed horses coming into this and from that we can take it that the selection will be ready for this one. Richard Kingscote, Dascombe’s top jockey, picks up the ride further adding to the positives for the horse. Returning to the track in the middle of May, it’s possible to forgive that run as it was her return and it looks like she’ll prefer the faster ground that’s forecast here tomorrow. All in all, there are a lot of positives for the selection and with solid each way claims, there’s no reason why she can’t go on to snatch this one.
